Precautions for Conveyor Belt Repair

17-05-2024

When a conveyor belt is damaged, it needs to be repaired promptly to prevent moisture and dirt from penetrating the damaged area, which can reduce the belt's lifespan. Usually, repair strips are used for this purpose. When using repair strips, the following points should be noted:

I: Conveyor Belt Blisters

  1. Uneven surface grinding can leave air in the adhesive surface, causing the conveyor belt to blister.

  2. Uneven application of adhesive, where thinner areas dry faster and thicker areas dry slower, resulting in incomplete solvent evaporation and insufficient initial bonding strength, leading to weak adhesion.

  3. After bonding, if the pressure roller does not fully compress and expel the air bubbles, proper compression or hammering from the center to the edges is required.

II: Poor Adhesion

  1. Insufficient airing time after applying adhesive, preventing the solvent in the adhesive from fully evaporating.

  2. Incorrect application of adhesive, with insufficient adhesive on the seam edges.

  3. Contamination of the adhesive surface during bonding, causing loss of activity and insufficient bonding strength.

  4. Inadequate curing time before putting the belt into service.
